Firebird II is the tool for vulnerability assessment of smartcards and media ASICs, achieving coverage and precision three orders of magnitude more stringent than available using general lab equipment.

Firebird II can identify security weaknesses and where possible, demonstrate the recovery of secure data from smartcards and media by:
  • Fault Injection, via precision power upset, clock disturbance or timing induced metastability
  • Differential Power Analysis (Direct or High-Order)
  • Cutting through spread spectrum clocking noise with precision timing sweeps
  • Cutting through injected power voltage noise by attacking up to 36,864 devices simultaneously (4608 per Firebird II frame), and making up to 1.6G attacks per second per device
  • Analysis of differential logic state by forcing momentary saturation saving on FIB time and cost
  • Discovery of LFSR taps and Decryption of LFSR keys using plain text vector sequences
  • Support for scanning light probes
  • Support of Kelvin AFM probes, to locate top level traces and inject signals
